Climate

Our climate is Continental-Mediterranean in nature, marked by high contrasts in temperature (both diurnally and annually) and low rainfall. These are ideal conditions for making interesting wines, with an excellent concentration of colour, sugar, flavour and aroma. In the summers, daytime temperatures typically reach the 30s, with a marked cooling off in the evenings, due to our elevation, clear skies and mountain breezes. The cool “El Cierzo” wind from the north-west is a marked feature of our climate. In the winters, below-zero temperatures at night are common and the days tend to be crisp and sunny. Humidity is low and rainfall averages 360 mm per year, most of it falling in the winter. There’s plenty of sunshine: 2,800 hours a year.
